Caloris Evaporator System: Get to Know the Caloris DFC®

CALORIS DFC® Evaporator System

Let’s say you have an existing facility, including evaporator system and dryer, that produces milk powders. You have a daily production goal, and your dryer would be up to the task if only your evaporator could supply the necessary feed for a full production day.

Optimizing your existing evaporator system could prove helpful, but is often a limited option due to the age or original design of that evaporator. Investing in an entirely new evaporator is an option, but comes with a potentially significant price tag for new equipment and building space, and could impose plant production downtime to get it up and running.

Enter the CALORIS DFC® Evaporator or Dryer Feed Conditioner, which provides a solution by complementing the capabilities of your existing evaporator and expanding your total evaporation capabilities to reach and maintain desired production rates.

Adding a CALORIS DFC® in-between your existing evaporator and the dryer allows the CALORIS DFC® to perform the additional evaporation duty that your system was lacking, adding the capacity that was holding back your production capabilities. The CALORIS DFC® will consistently supply concentrated product to the dryer at desired maximum %TS level for the full production day, maximizing dryer production and eliminating the common problem of diminishing dryer powder discharge capacity as evaporator solids fall off during the latter half of a production day. The CALORIS DFC® will also relieve the existing evaporator of the most difficult job of achieving final product concentration, potentially extending the productive lifespan of that evaporator as it operates under a less challenging concentration profile.

CALORIS DFC®

The CALORIS DFC® Evaporator can be designed for either thermal vapor recompression (TVR) steam heating or mechanical vapor recompression (MVR) heating, to utilize the most cost efficient heating option depending on utility costs at your specific plant location.

The unique engineering design of the MVR heated CALORIS DFC® allows it to fit within a small physical footprint and requires minimal ducting to interconnect system components. This can realize substantial savings from lower construction and installation costs, while achieving the desired increased production capacity at a high overall energy efficiency.

The CALORIS DFC® can be installed and pre-commissioned on water while the existing production system continues to operate. Total production downtime is limited to a few days while the DFC is brought online.
