Andrea Traylor joined Caloris in February as our new Human Resources Manager. Get to know Andrea below!
Caloris: How did you get involved in HR?
Andrea: When I graduated from college, I had absolutely no HR experience, but I had education and work experience that could be translated into the skills that are needed for an HR Generalist, so that’s where I started. In these early jobs, I created opportunities to do a lot more than I had been hired for originally – by mastering anything that I was tasked with, and always finding more to do to contribute. I learned how to think critically and quickly, and I learned how to listen to people, understand company policies and goals, and establish meaningful business relationships.
Caloris: What do you enjoy most about working with employees and prospective employees?
Andrea: I like the variety and the ever changing nature of HR and working with employees – there’s variety in the people you meet from different cultures, and also in the different facets of HR as a profession and a career. There has never been a dull day, it may not always be the day that I had planned when I went to the office, but I love not knowing exactly what my day will bring. I also like the continuous improvement and learning aspects, working to make things better, raising the bar, taking people and processes to the next level, and I do learn something new almost every day! It’s rewarding to me in my work when I can see how the work that I do as an HR professional enables employees and the overall company to reach objectives.
Caloris: What do you like most about living/working in Easton/on the Shore?
Andrea: I like being back on the Eastern Shore regularly, after having spent a lot of time recently in the DC metropolitan area. I like the more relaxed nature of the Shore, less traffic, more opportunities to be outdoors and to enjoy life on the water.
Caloris: What are your hobbies? Anything else fun you’d like to share?
Andrea: Taking care of our dogs – two Labrador Retrievers, boating, sailing, fishing, and gardening.
Caloris: What’s your favorite cheese?
Andrea: Lately I’ve been loving Burrata, which is a soft Italian cheese made from mozzarella and cream. It’s great with fresh tomatoes.
Caloris: What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?
Andrea: Hands down, mint chocolate chip.
Caloris: Anything else you’d like to share about yourself?
Andrea: There are several museums in St. Michael’s outside of Easton that receive tremendous support from the public. My husband and I are involved in the Classic Motor Museum that showcases historically significant automobiles. We have several cars that we like to display on occasion, and on Saturday mornings there’s a cars and coffee event in front of the museum.
