Mariana St. Peter is our newest Junior Process Engineer. Get to know Mariana here.
Caloris: How did you get involved in engineering?
Mariana: Growing up I wanted to be a soccer referee, but since my dad didn’t allow me to sign up for program, I decided to invest in the three disciplines that I like the most: mathematics, physics, and chemistry – so nothing better than Engineering to combine all of them together. I started Industrial Engineering in Brazil (where I am from) when I decided to move to the U.S to learn English. Long story short, I met my husband during this time, got married and never went back to Brazil to finish college. Since my credits didn’t transfer over from Brazil and I had to start college all over again, I decided to study Chemical Engineering due to the vast field applications.
Caloris: What do you enjoy most about your work?
Mariana: Working as an engineer means you will never get bored. There is always something new to work on that involves creativity and different perspectives.
Caloris: You are based in Maryland. What do you like most about living/working here?
Mariana: My family and I recently moved to Maryland from Chicago. Currently there are three things I like more about Maryland when compared to the Windy City: 1 – We are surrounded by the water ; 2 – The weather ; and 3 – Property taxes.
Caloris: What are your hobbies? Anything else fun you’d like to share?
Mariana: I love to travel; I’ve been to 13 different countries and 36 U.S states.
Caloris: What’s your favorite cheese?
Mariana: Hard to pick one since I love cheese, but I guess I can say Pepper Jack.
Caloris: What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
Mariana: Pumpkin Pie.
Caloris: Anything else you’d like to share about yourself?
Mariana: I became very good at home renovation after doing a full renovation on our previous home in Chicago – from bathroom/kitchen remodel to finishing a basement.
