Michael Ladd joined Caloris just this week as a Process Engineer. Get to know him here.
Caloris: How did you get involved in design?
Michael: As a child, Legos were always my favorite toys. The passion for creating new and interesting things that those small building blocks instilled never left me. My interest in design and science in school led me to engineering as a natural choice. The building blocks are bigger and more expensive now, but I still want to make new and interesting things with them.
Caloris: What do you enjoy most about your work?
Michael: My favorite thing about being an engineer is seeing something that existed in your mind, or that of your team, become something real and tangible. The ability to see an idea become a design and then a reality is amazingly satisfying.
Caloris: You are based in Illinois. What do you like most about living/working there?
Michael: In a word, community. I was born in Illinois and while it might not be the most interesting place geographically, it has a lot of the people I love most in it.
Caloris: What are your hobbies? Anything else fun you’d like to share?
Michael: Don’t let the lack of terrain in my home state fool you, I love the outdoors. From walking my dog to backpacking the Grand Canyon, I want to be outside and enjoying nature. I am also a huge fantasy and sci-fi buff. If a book has magical powers, superheroes, or spaceships I’m probably interested in reading it.
Caloris: What’s your favorite cheese?
Michael: Parmesan. I’m a big pasta fan and it goes great with most pasta dishes. Do yourself a favor and skip the pre-shredded stuff though.
Caloris: What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
Michael: Peanut butter cup or anything that mixes peanut butter and chocolate.
Caloris: Anything else you’d like to share about yourself?
Michael: I’m big on travelling and I like to hear about the cool places people have visited. I’m always looking for inspiration for my next adventure.
