Where To Look First: Existing Equipment Performance
Process equipment requires a large amount of energy. Caloris provides membrane, evaporator and spray dryer troubleshooting, service, capacity expansions, energy audits and training to help ensure this equipment is performing optimally. We can assess systems originally supplied by Caloris or another supplier.
Often when we look for ways to achieve better energy efficiency, our engineers will propose solutions that have additional benefits including greater capacity, reduced fouling, improved CIP performance, simplified operation and extended equipment life. These improvements contribute to equipment that is overall more sustainable in the long run.
Membrane Opportunities
Membrane filtration should not be overlooked during an energy audit, especially reverse osmosis and other separation steps that could reduce thermal load before the evaporation and drying stages of your process.
Caloris engineers can help to find the right balance between membrane and evaporator duty to optimize energy efficiency. Our team can also assess the membrane system with an eye toward optimizing performance, including the modeling of projected energy required versus actual energy consumed (as well as suggestions for eliminating any gaps).
We can also look at possibilities for expansion of your membrane system to accommodate increased throughput, an evaluation that would consider the impact on the evaporator and dryer equipment.
Evaporation Opportunities
Upgrades and retrofits can provide big rewards for a relatively small investment compared to replacing entire evaporation units. We will look at upgrade opportunities including MVR turbofan and TVR upgrades and rebuilds/retrofits for older pieces of equipment. Calandrias, tubular preheaters, surface condensers, flash coolers and vacuum pump skids will all be examined for signs that they are ready for an upgrade.

For facilities interested in new equipment, Caloris custom evaporators can integrate regenerative heat concepts with other process equipment and optimize energy integration across the line. The CALORIS CVT® compact MVR evaporator offers high energy efficiency and regenerative feed heating in a small footprint suitable for existing facilities.
Spray Drying and Heat Recovery Opportunities
A major energy savings opportunity on your spray dryer is to incorporate energy recovery. We have an in-depth series available on energy recovery for spray dryers at both existing facilities and new plants. Read more here and here.
We not only look at installation of these new energy recovery systems to start achieving immediate results, but we put careful consideration into long-term maintenance and operation of these technologies over the life of your equipment. Contact us to learn more and discuss your questions.
