A Caloris customer requested our assistance with evaporator improvements as they sought to enhance the performance and capabilities of their existing evaporator system. We sent an engineer to site to perform an assessment.
We tasked the engineer with identifying potential modifications that could be made to the evaporator’s operating conditions and equipment upgrades to improve system performance and efficiency. During his visit, he monitored a production run to assess the system’s overall performance capabilities while on product and during CIP.
Our engineer made several discoveries, including a bad gasket, eight leaking clamps and a bad turbofan shaft seal that all resulted in vacuum leaks.
“There is NO such thing as a SMALL vacuum leak.” — Bruce Skinner
He observed significant scale on the surface condenser tubes and recommended adding connections to the tower water line inlet and outlet to allow for periodic CIP flushes. He also noted that the flash cooler needed to be checked for obstructions as it was not properly cooling the product.
All of these observations, plus further recommendations, were provided in a report to the customer along with our offer to assist with any maintenance items the customer decided to undertake.
