CALORIS CONCENTRIX® Case Study (Wastewater Evaporator)

Wastewater Evaporator Success Story

“Partnering with Caloris, we’ve been able to develop a state-of-the-art process that significantly improves our environmental footprint. This project yielded some amazing results, we wanted to improve our process and once we started working with Caloris we quickly realized the potential we had to reduce water and energy usage.”

Top projects 2016Recently, Honda Precision Parts of Georgia, LLC (HPPG), a manufacturer of transmissions in the southeastern United States, was looking for a solution to significantly reduce disposal costs for their facility’s wastewater. One option considered was a wastewater evaporator. They were looking for a solution that met several goals:

Goals

1

Provide an opportunity to recycle/reuse water recovered from the process

2

Meet sewer discharge limits imposed by local authorities

3

Include additional capacity to allow for expansion, as needed.

The plant contracted with Caloris Engineering LLC for the purchase of a CALORIS CONCENTRIX® 100 Compact MVR Evaporator, which is capable of evaporating 28,000 gallons per day, depending on feed chemistry and the frequency of cleaning. The Concentrix unit has several advantages:

  • The CALORIS CONCENTRIX® arrives mostly pre-assembled, which helps to reduce installation time
  • State-of-the-art turbofan technology offers significantly greater operating flexibility and reduced maintenance
  • The CALORIS CONCENTRIX® provides increased energy efficiency
  • The CALORIS CONCENTRIX® is extremely compact and requires minimal costs for facility preparation and installation.

MVR stands for Mechanical Vapor Recompression. MVR turbofans generate heating vapors by compression of the water vapors evaporated from the product.

The now patented Concentrix unit was tasked with reducing the facility’s daily wastewater volume by 90% so the water recovered could be reused for plant needs such as cooling tower makeup water, etc.

In March of 2016, the CALORIS CONCENTRIX® CC100 was successfully installed and commissioned as a wastewater evaporator.

“Partnering with Caloris, we’ve been able to develop a state of the art process that significantly improves our environmental footprint. This project yielded some amazing results, we wanted to improve our process and once we started working with Caloris we quickly realized the potential we had to reduce water and energy usage,” said HPPG Vice President Mike Jett.

“We knew we had an opportunity to help HPPG with their long-term plans. The success of the project has provided them with an opportunity to recover/reuse up to 3 million gallons of water per year,” said Caloris Product Manager – Packaged Systems Tom Pyper.

A leading industry publication, Water and Wastes Digest, chose Caloris and HPPG as one of its Top Project Winners for their 2016 awards ceremony in New Orleans on September 26th.

“At HPPG, it’s a pretty big deal,” said HPPG Facilities Manager Wayne Karcz. “There aren’t any plants using evaporation for wastewater recycling. It reduces water and energy use and helps us preserve the water source for everyone in the area.”
