Process Engineer — Membrane Technology
Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Perform system design & sizing calculations for membrane filtration systems
  • Establish expertise in membrane solutions for food & dairy applications
  • Perform detailed engineering associated with execution of membrane system supply contracts, including hydraulic and utility consumption calculations
  • Develop process design documentation including heat & mass balances and process flow diagrams
  • Calculate appropriate sizing of process components including pumps, valves, heat exchangers, pipelines, etc.
  • Participate in the specification, selection, and procurement of process components and instrumentation
  • Develop detailed functional specifications for plant automation
  • Develop and deliver technical training materials and operations manuals
  • Lead on-site commissioning of process equipment, process validation, and training of customer personnel
  • Survey and assess existing plants/equipment
  • Troubleshoot process and equipment issues
  • Actively participate in the Caloris’ continuous innovation and product development efforts

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • BS in Chemical Engineering, or a related degree
  • 5+ years of experience working with membrane filtration systems as a process or project engineer or project manager
  • A conceptual understanding of heat and mass transfer, heat and mass balances, fluid flow and energy conversion
  • Basic familiarity with modern PLC-based industrial automation/control systems
  • Effective and professional verbal and written communication skills, including highly technical material
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.) and effective use of email
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, and capable of performing job duties without supervision
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.) and effective use of email
  • Willingness and ability to mentor/direct junior process engineering personnel

Desired Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience in food/beverage and/or dairy processing
  • Experience with chemical engineering software (ChemCAD, Aspen, etc)
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD


  • Must be able to travel an average of 30%. Travel will be throughout the United States with some international travel possible. Must be able to perform occasional extended travel (up to 2 weeks duration) and occasional weekend travel.

  • Must be physically able to work long days when on-site.

  • Must be physically able to work in hot/noisy environments when on-site.

  • Must be physically able to climb multiple flights of stairs and ladders.

  • Relocation preferred but not required. Periodic trips to the Easton, MD office are required
